Wake the Guardians

[2008] Princess Katreia, betrothed at seven to the prince of an enemy kingdom in hopes of ending a war, secretly pursues her dream of learning to swordfight.

Story

The Kingdom of Cedan lives in a precarious balance, its borders beset by sieges from the much larger Kingdom of Kerade.

When she is seven years old, Princess Katreia of Cedan is promised to the Prince of Kerade, a marriage both kingdoms' queens hope will bring an end to their bitter war. But as she grows up, Katreia finds herself acquiring dreams and desires of her own, all at odds with her looming marriage.

One of those is a dream of becoming a swordswoman, which soon burgeons into a dangerous secret only one other person in the castle knows: a fire mage who joined the halls after Katreia saved his life…

Trivia

I created Wake the Guardians in 2008, writing the original version in the span of approximately 3 weeks. It was revised in 2026 and can now be read at my media archive.
